Learn The Symptoms And Signs Of Menopause Roanoke Female Residents

By Jason Peterson

Menopause causes many changes in a woman's body. It is during this time that the hormones estrogen and progesterone are decreasing causing symptoms to develop that can be uncomfortable and hard to bear. Some women go through this time in life without any symptoms and others have multiple symptoms that make life more challenging. There are symptoms and signs of menopause Roanoke women need to be aware of so they can take the proper course of action.

A telltale sign of menopause is when a woman has hot flashes that persist and cause her to feel like the temperature in the room just went up by several degrees. It could be cold outside but some women perspire and feel hot inside. This sign or symptom is different for every woman from mild to severe. A doctor should be consulted if they become unbearable and medications can be given to combat this symptom and provide some relief.

Another sign or symptom to be aware of is changes in the menstrual cycle. You may either flow heavily or hardly at all, only spotting for a few days or you could spot or flow heavily for several days longer than usual. When you have not had a period for at least 12 months and you begin spotting or having a period again, talk to your doctor as this may be a sign of some form of cancer and you need to be checked to ensure your health.

Insomnia can also be a problem for some women during this time. Sleep issues can create other problems in your life and it is important to get proper rest during this time. Your doctor may be able to prescribe a sleep aid to help you get a good night's sleep.

Sometimes you may experience frequent urination or urinary incontinence. This is because the vaginal lining becomes thin and the surround tissues lose their elasticity causing you to feel like you have to use the bathroom all the time. If this becomes a problem you can strengthen your pelvic muscles by doing Kegel exercises or talking to your doctor about any medication that can help with frequent urination or incontinence.

Urinary tract infections can become more frequent during this time because of hormonal changes in vaginal area and urinary tract that allows bacteria to grow more often. You will need to see the doctor who can prescribe an antibiotic for this. If you have painful or frequent urination that does not go away they may order a urine test to check for this infection.

If your sex drive is waning you may want to talk with your doctor if you have painful sex or vaginal dryness that causes painful intercourse. They may recommend some vaginal creams or gels and can often prescribe a pill for the pain. This can do wonders for you as you go through these changes and it is always helpful to speak with your doctor about it.

You should always seek medical counsel concerning this life changing event as a medical professional will be able to help you with any other symptoms you may be experiencing and can often prescribe certain medications to alleviate these symptoms and make life more bearable. Every woman is different and not all will experience the exact same symptoms at any given time.
