What Makes Coffee Bean Extract A Fat-Busting Powerhouse

After being featured in the Dr. Oz Show, green coffee bean extract has received a lot of buzz from people all over the world. It is said that supplements made from this extract can actually help people lose weight without changing their diet or participating in an exercise program. But how is this different from the myriad of other weight loss supplements that are available in the market today?

The regular coffee that we usually enjoy in the morning is made from roasted coffee beans. With green coffee, it does not get roasted and this is key to its weight loss capabilities. In its raw form, green coffee bean extract has a high amount of chlorogenic acid - a polyphenol antioxidant that helps promote weight loss by managing the way fat and glucose are absorbed in the body.

To prove his point, Dr. Oz came up with his own study on green coffee. There were 100 women who participated in this study and those who took the extract lost 2 pounds of weight on the average. Take note that the study was done within 2 weeks and using 400mg of chlorogenic acid. There was also a similar study done at the American Chemical Society for 22 weeks and the average weight lost was 22 pounds.

It is important to note that Dr. Oz refrained from recommending any particular brand of green coffee bean extract. Instead, the doctor mentioned guidelines as to how to choose a quality product. One of them is that the amount of chlorogenic acid has to be at least 45% to be effective. Chlorogenic acid may also be referred to in other products as either Svetol or GCA (green coffee antioxidant).

It is not unusual to find a lot of low-quality green coffee extracts on the market today due to the increased popularity it has acquired. With this in mind, it is important to be armed with the knowledge that will help you discern which product is worth buying. You should always read what is stated in the label, particularly the ingredients list. A good product should be pure and free from fillers or additives.

There must be no additional caffeine in the green coffee bean extract besides the naturally occurring amount in it. It is said that there is around 20mg of caffeine for every 800mg of chlorogenic acid. Keep in mind that this amount is less than 20% as compared to the caffeine in a cup of regular coffee. Too much caffeine has been linked to insomnia, restlessness, nervousness, and increased heart rate.

When looking for green coffee extract on the market, you should be cautious about exaggerated claims on its efficacy. A reputable manufacturer should also be able to mention any possible side effects if the product is not used as intended. They should also be able to tell you how their product is made and will provide a clear list of ingredients used.

Keep in mind though that with any type of supplements, there must still be some hard work and discipline on your part if you want to achieve the best results. Most people think that they can forego having a healthy diet and exercise and just take green coffee bean extract - this is simply not the best path to take if you want to truly lose weight the healthy way and keep if off permanently.
