How To Prepare For Pelvic Floor Physio ACT AU

By Carolyn Miller

The pelvic floor is an incredibly important part of female anatomy. For the first few decades most women don't even consider it and just rely on it faithfully. However, it is one of those things that you quickly realise just how important it is once things start to go wrong and you need pelvic floor physio ACT AU.

After giving birth is when women often realise just how important the pelvic floor is. The combination of the weight of carrying a child for 9 months and the trauma of giving birth has a severely detrimental effect on the pelvic floor and it requires a great deal of work to restore it to its former strength. In severe cases there needs to be an operation but more often than not the issue simply requires physio and kegel exercises.

Bladder control is often taken for granted, but women who have weak muscles or who have given birth will quickly develop problems in this area, usually involving urination. The feeling of not having complete control over the bladder is particularly unnerving and many women will stop performing normal activities or even leaving the house because they are embarrassed because of it.

It also plays an important role in sex. The tightness of this muscle will directly affect the amount of pleasure a woman gets from sex and even the strength of her orgasm. If it is loose the man will also notice during intercourse. A woman with very strong muscles will be able to squeeze them tightly at will which can significantly improve sex for both parties.

Women struggling in this area feel it in every part of their lives. So many different types of activity can be affected by it, from going shopping to walking the dog. It can become extremely embarrassing as those with a severe problem often have little bladder control and either stop going out entirely or are forced to wear incontinence protection, which is bad for self esteem and confidence.

Kegel exercises are very important. For pregnant women they should be used before and after the birth to help with strength, incontinence and control. They can be performed with no equipment, simply lying on the bed and they only take a few minutes. Lifting the pelvic floor feels similar to how it feels when you stop peeing mid stream. These muscles are then held in and slowly released.

There are also tools you can buy to help with these exercises. They include weights that hang from the vagina so you can lift them and strengthen the muscles even more. There are also gauges that will give you a reading so you know exactly how strong the vagina muscles are and what progress you are making.

It does take a little time before a difference is felt, but it only takes a few minutes a day consistently to make a radical change to your life and your sex life. Women who make kegel exercises a part of their normal life have more confidence in every area and are less likely to develop problems with incontinence later in life.
