Within the museum walls are trinkets, and tools used everyday of homesteaders life and great archaeological artifacts such as fishing boats and more from the Alaskan Natives that once called this home. Fortunately this site and so many others are short distances from almost all Lodging areas. You can venture to the Swim Beach at stormy lake and enjoy splashing in the inviting waters on a hot summer day too.

Thanks to the Kanaitze Tribe of Indians program for bringing their history and culture to everyone in the Interpretive K'Beq Site you can look at true archaeological pieces of their Dena'ina history and their lives. Take your time around the site and take in the cultural significance in everything which surrounds you.

At the Historical Society Museum you can view the many forms of wildlife found here past and present. There is also a log village that is historical which includes the last of the schools of the territory which still houses the lanterns of gas they used for light during their lessons. You can see exactly how the first homesteaders to this area lived by way of the artifacts and the photos on display here.

See the historical Iditarod Trail and walk upon it and learn all about how the Alaskan Railroad came to be at KMTA National Heritage. This community still is home to some historical and colorful people ready to share their stories and legends of the Alaskan frontier with you. Some say that there are a lot of ghosts of settlers from days past still here as well.

The West Entrance Skilak Lake Road stretches 18 miles that forms a loop. Here is one of the best spots to see all types of wildlife which calls the Peninsula of Kenai their home. The many glaciers and lakes found will make excellent snap shots for vacation memories. For the fishermen, you can visit the Lake Overlook Upper Ohmer for some peace and serenity as well as catching the best rainbow trout.

There is even a Bear Viewing Lodge which only lets 16 travelers at a time stay within the bear habitat and sanctuary.
