New York Urgent Care Facilities Provides More Opportunity

By Sharron Cantu

If you have an injury or condition that needs to be dealt with right away or else it may end up becoming a lot worse, urgent care applies to you. In this case, you should go to a New York urgent care facility to treat your symptoms. This walk-in clinic takes in all types of people and are capable of treating all sorts of problems.

Say you fell down and hurt your arm, but you're not sure whether you've broken it or merely sprained it. If it is broken and you don't get it treated right away, you could do even more damage to your arm. However, emergency rooms are expensive, and getting an appointment with you doctor could take days. You should visit a walk-in clinic center nearby for affordable, quick care.

You can think of this category of walk-in clinic center as being a facility that is in between your general practitioner and an emergency room. It open for long hours and you can walk right in if you need to. They are perfectly capable of dealing with minor emergencies, and probably a whole lot better for them than busy emergency rooms.

The Urgent Care Association of America requires that all of these category of walk-in clinic centers follow their rules and regulations. Specifically, they must fall under one of two categories. If the center is Category 1, a licensed doctor is present during the open hours. If the center is Category 2, either a licensed doctor or nurse practitioner is present. Either way, a licensed doctor has to be employed as the director of the facility.

While most these walk-in clinic centers will accept patients of all ages, they may reserve some hours where they will only accept children. However, all centers must be open for four hours a day every day, adding up to three thousand hours a year. Also, they should have two exam rooms, one waiting room, and restrooms for the patients. These requirements can be waived if there is another facility that adheres to them within five miles.

All the practitioners on site will have to be able to perform minor procedures and work IVs. They will also have to be able to use the X-rays, phlebotomy services, drug carts, oxygen, and automatic external defibrillators. Additionally, there must be phones available on the premises.

These walk-in clinic centers provide easy access and fast service. The alternative is to wait hours to be seen in an emergency room. Or, you could wait for your regular doctor, but the office may not be open or the schedules might be booked up. Instead, just visit an urgent care center.

You can walk into urgent care centers at odd hours without an appointment, and be seen within half an hour of walking in. You can use your insurance if you'd like, and the care there is quite affordable. Because these centers aren't as crowded, you will probably get great focused care.
