What Is The Right Way To Display And Use American Flags?

American flags are highly revered in the country and they are used to symbolize the United States of America in all national and international events. It is flown customarily at all public buildings throughout the year, although you may also find them hoisted at some of the private houses. On special holidays and occasions such as the Memorial Day, you will find the flags placed by the war memorials and also next to the tombs of the U.S. war veterans. On the Memorial Day, Presidents' Day, Independence Day, and Flag Day, it is quite common to hoist the flags at various public and private places.
When putting up the national flag of America, you must always follow the right way to use and display the flag. The United States Flag Code has laid down a few important guidelines for the display, use, and disposal of the flag. Regardless of whether you are planning to put up flags in your house, shop or some other place like your school, it is recommended that you position them exactly according to the guidelines.
You should ensure that the flag never ever touches the group or dips to any person or thing. If it is flown after the sun sets, you should make sure that it is properly illuminated. Never try to use a flag with torn edges. If it is tattered, get it replaced or repaired immediately. If it is damaged to such an extent that it can no longer be used to symbolize the nation, it should be dignifiedly destroyed, and the most preferred method to do this is by burning.
The American flag should never be worn in any way or used as a bedding, or drapery. It should not be used for the purpose of advertising for any particular product or service. The design should not be printed, embroidered or impressed on items that are meant for temporary use and discarded later on. Some examples are napkins, cushions, handkerchiefs, and boxes.
The United States Flag Code does not permit the use of the design for fashion purpose, and wearing any clothing that represents the flag is not permitted. However some patriotic organizations or national groups are allowed to have a patch on their uniform. Although the law only allows the government institutions to display the American flag, the private citizens may also do so as long as they comply with the standard codes.
If you wish to display the flag on your vehicle which may be a car, plane or boat, you must ensure that you display it in the right manner. The correct method to put up the flag is by fixing it at the side of the vehicle in a way that the canton appears at the front side of the vehicle so that the flag looks like its streaming backwards as the automobile moves forward.
Thus, if you are feeling patriotic go ahead and display one in your home, but make sure that it is done in the rightful manner.
